Office lighting: identify and reduce glare
Before adding a lamp, observe the light on your desk at different times of the day. The position of the screen and light sources matters as much as the lighting fixture.
Checks to make
-
Identify reflections
Display a common document and check if a window or lamp is reflected in the screen. Try a different orientation or adjust the blinds.
-
Light the task
To read a paper document, direct the light toward the working area. Check that it does not interfere with reading the screen or the webcam framing.
-
Adjust the display
Adapt the text size and brightness settings to the conditions of the room. Avoid keeping a setting out of habit if the ambient light changes.
-
Assess the need for a lamp
Compare the footprint, mounting, and available settings. An additional lamp is only useful if it addresses the observed deficiency.
Move on to the next step
Start with a simple change, then observe its use over several sessions. Define the role of any equipment before comparing models.
