At the office: check foot support and seating
A habitual position is not enough to diagnose a problem. To examine your setup, start with the supports and available adjustments.
Checks to make
-
Test the seat height
Locate the height control and try a position where your feet can rest flat on the floor. Also check that the keyboard is accessible on the desk.
-
Check the seat depth
Sit all the way back in the seat, then check if the backrest and the front edge of the seat are comfortable. Consult the manual to find out what adjustments are possible.
-
Consider a footrest
If additional support seems useful, check its stability, height, and the space it will take up under the desk.
-
Maintain the ability to change positions
Avoid cluttering the legroom. The goal is to have several comfortable positions throughout the day.
Move on to the next step
Start with a simple change, then observe how it is used over several sessions. Define the purpose of any equipment before comparing models.
