Remote work: five points to check at your workstation
Before replacing your furniture, observe your setup while performing a routine task. Five checks can help identify adjustments to try.
Checks to make
-
Foot support
Sit as you would when working and check whether your feet have stable support. Test the seat height adjustments rather than sticking with a default height.
-
Tool placement
Bring the keyboard and mouse closer so you can use them without having to search for them on the desk. Keep useful documents within easy reach.
-
Reading on screen
Adjust the font size and screen position. Check that you can read common documents without constantly leaning forward.
-
Space to move
Remove objects that obstruct your legs or prevent you from pushing your chair back. Take advantage of task changes to vary your posture.
-
Monitoring over time
Change one setting at a time and note what works for you. Persistent discomfort warrants personalized advice rather than a rushed purchase.
Moving to the next step
Start with a simple change, then observe how you use it over several sessions. Determine the purpose of any equipment before comparing models.
